Travelling Tips from Windsor Caravans

  • Check all loose articles are stowed securely. Do not stow tins, bottles and heavy items in overhead lockers for towing.
  • Close and lock all windows, lockers, drawers, cupboard doors, roof hatches and protector shade.
  • Concertina doors – lock back with strap provided.
  • Table – Lock down tight when travelling. DO NOT over tighten as this may damage the vinyl flooring.
  • Lights – Check overhead lights and reading lamps are tight.
  • Check gas cylinders are correctly positioned, secured, and turned off. DO NOT store any other items in the gas bottle section.
  • Remove water from drain hoses and stow.
  • Check tyre conditions and pressure (See compliance plate) every 500kms.
  • Check wheel nuts. Tighten to 110 NM.
  • Fully raise all stabiliser legs.
  • Lock caravan door and keep the key with your car keys.
  • Hitch caravan to car ensuring coupling catch is in the locked position. Connect break-away chain (emergency braking device – fitted to larger vans.)

  • Release caravan park brake.

  • Ensure jockey wheel is removed.
  • Ensure water tank cap is secure.
  • Check 240V electrical lead has been disconnected and stowed and inlet cover is closed.
  • Ensure roof lock down clamps are in lock position.
  • Check around caravan for items – in particular corner stabiliser leg handle, buckets, finishing rods, mats etc.
  • Adjust towing mirrors.
  • Do not allow refrigerator to operate from 12v if the tow vehicle engine is switched off.
  • Regular Checks – when traveling check all suspension, chassis components and interior fittings.
